The Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ
I will bless the Lord who gives me
counsel; my heart teaches me, night after night. I have set the Lord always
before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not fall.
Psalm 16:7,8
Let
us confess our sins against God and our neighbor.
we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word,
and deed,
by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our
neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your Name. Amen.
Almighty God have mercy
on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen.
OfficiantO God,
make speed to save us.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit: * as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia.
O gracious light, pure
brightness of the everliving Father in heaven, O
Jesus Christ, holy and blessed! Now as we come to the setting of the sun, and
our eyes behold the vesper light, we sing your praises, O God: Father, Son, and
Holy Spirit. You are worthy at all times to be praised
by happy voices, O Son of God, O Giver of Life, and to be glorified through all
the worlds.
Give
the King your justice, O God, *
and
your righteousness to the King’s son;
That he may rule your
people righteously * and the poor with justice.
That the mountains may
bring prosperity to the people, * and the little hills bring righteousness.
He
shall defend the needy among the people; *
he shall rescue the poor and crush the oppressor.
He shall live as long as the sun and moon endure, * from one generation to
another.
He shall come down like
rain upon the mown field, * like showers that water the earth.
In his time shall the righteous
flourish; *
there
shall be abundance of peace till the moon shall be no
more.
He
shall rule from sea to sea, *
and
from the River to the ends of the earth.
His foes shall bow down
before him, * and his enemies lick the dust.
The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall pay tribute, * and the kings
of Arabia and Saba offer gifts.
All kings shall bow down
before him, * and all the nations do him service.
For he shall deliver the
poor who cries out in distress, * and the oppressed who has no helper.
He shall have pity on the
lowly and poor; * he shall preserve the lives of the needy.
He shall redeem their
lives from oppression and violence, * and dear shall their blood be in his
sight.
Long may he live! and may there be given to him gold from Arabia; *
may prayer
be made for him always, and may they bless him all the day
long.
May there be abundance of
grain on the earth, growing thick even on the hilltops; * may its fruit
flourish like Lebanon, and its grain like grass upon the earth.
May his Name remain for ever and be established as long as
the sun endures; * may all the nations bless themselves in him and call him blessed.
Blessed be the Lord GOD,
the God of Israel, * who alone does wondrous deeds!
And blessed be his glorious Name for ever! *
and may all the earth be
filled with his glory. Amen. Amen. Glory to the
Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: * as it was in the beginning,
is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
The First Lesson Daniel 7:9-10,13-14
A
Reading from the Book of Daniel.
As I watched, thrones were set in
place, and an Ancient One took his throne, his clothing was white as snow, and
the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames, and its
wheels were burning fire. A stream of fire issued and flowed out from his presence.
A thousand
thousands served him, and ten thousand times
ten thousand stood attending him. The court sat in judgment, and the books were
opened. As I watched in the night visions, I saw one like a human being coming
with the clouds of heaven. And he came to the Ancient
One and was presented before him. To him was given
dominion and glory and kingship, that all peoples, nations, and languages
should serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not pass
away, and his kingship is one that shall never be destroyed.

15. The Song of Mary Luke 1:46-55
My soul proclaims the
greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my
Savior; * for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call
me blessed: *
the Almighty
has done great things for me, and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who
fear him * in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm, *
he has
scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the
mighty from their thrones, * and has lifted up the
lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things, * and the rich he has sent away
empty.
He has come to the help
of his servant Israel, * for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
The promise he made to
our fathers, * to
Abraham and his children for ever.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit: * as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
A
Reading from the Gospel According to John.
“Now my soul is troubled. And what
should I say— Father, save me from this
hour’? No, it is for
this reason that I have come to this hour. Father, glorify your name.” Then a
voice came from heaven, “I have
glorified it, and I will glorify it again.” The crowd standing there heard it and said that it was thunder. Others said,
“An angel has spoken to him.” Jesus answered, “This voice has come for your
sake, not for mine. Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this
world will be driven out. And I, when I am lifted up
from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” He said this to indicate the
kind of death he was to die. The crowd answered him, “We have heard from the
law that the Messiah remains forever. How can you say that the Son of Man must
be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?” Jesus said to
them, “The light is with you for a little longer. Walk while you have the
light, so that the darkness may not overtake you. If you walk in the darkness, you
do not know where you are going. While you have the light,
believe in the
light, so that you may become children of light.”
After Jesus had said this, he departed and hid from them.

17. The Song of Simeon Luke 2:29-32
Lord, you now have set
your servant free * to go in peace as you have promised;
For these eyes of mine
have seen the Savior, *
whom you have prepared for all the world to see:
A Light to enlighten the
nations, * and
the glory of your people Israel.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit: * as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin
Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He
descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven,
and
is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the
forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

O God, who on the holy mount revealed
to chosen witnesses your well-beloved Son,
wonderfully transfigured, in raiment white and glistening: Mercifully
