Evening Prayer
Yours is the day, O God, yours also the night; you established the moon and the sun. You fixed all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter. Psalm 74:15,16
O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory to the
Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit
As it was in the
beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia.
O gracious
light,
pure brightness of the everliving Father in heaven,
O
Jesus Christ, holy and blessed!
Now as we come to the setting of
the sun,
and our eyes behold the vesper light,
we sing your
praises, O God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
You are worthy at
all times to be praised by happy voices,
O Son of God, O Giver of
Life,
and to be glorified
through all the worlds.

Lord, who may dwell in your tabernacle? *
who
may abide upon your holy hill?

Whoever leads a blameless life and does what is right, *
who
speaks the truth from his heart.

There is no guile upon his tongue;
he
does no evil to his friend; *

does not heap contempt upon his neighbor.

In his sight the wicked is rejected, *

he honors those who fear the Lord.

He has sworn to do no wrong *

does not take back his word.

Thus
says the Lord:
Heaven is my throne
and the
earth is my footstool;
what is the house that you would build for
me,
and what is my resting-place?
All these
things my hand has made,
and so all these things
are mine, *
says the Lord.
But this is the one to
whom I will look,
to the humble and contrite
in spirit,
who trembles at my word.
For I know* their works and their thoughts, and I am* coming to gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come and shall see my glory, and I will set a sign among them. From them I will send survivors to the nations, to Tarshish, Put,* and Lud—which draw the bow—to Tubal and Javan, to the coastlands far away that have not heard of my fame or seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the nations. My
soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in

Reading
Now
as an elder myself and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well
as one who shares in the glory to be revealed, I exhort the elders
among you to tend the flock of God that is in your charge, exercising
the oversight,*
not under compulsion but willingly, as God would have you do it*—not
for sordid gain but eagerly. Do not lord it over those in your
charge, but be examples to the flock. And when the chief shepherd
appears, you will win the crown of glory that never fades away. In
the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the
elders.*
And all of you must clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings
with one another, for
‘God opposes the proud,
but
gives grace to the humble.’
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you. Discipline yourselves; keep alert.* Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour. Resist him, steadfast in your faith, for you know that your brothers and sisters* throughout the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering. And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, support, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.

believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

He was conceived

buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose

Almighty and everlasting God, who gave to your apostle Bartholomew grace truly to believe and to preach your Word: Grant that your Church may love what he believed and preach what he taught; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen
For Protection
O God, the life of all who live, the light of the faithful, the strength of those who labor, and the repose of the dead: We thank you for the blessings of the day that is past, and humbly ask for your protection through the coming night. Bring us in safety to the morning hours; through him who died and rose again for us, your Son our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
For Mission
Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love's sake. Amen.
Let us pray now for our own needs and those of others.
A Prayer of St. Chrysostom
Almighty God, you have given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplication to you; and you have promised through your well-beloved Son that when two or three are gathered together in his Name you will be in the midst of them: Fulfill now, O Lord, our desires and petitions as may be best for us; granting us in this world knowledge of your truth, and in the age to come life everlasting. Amen.
