Thus says the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy, “I dwell in the high and holy place and also with the one who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble and to revive the heart of the contrite.”

in Zion were they

The LORD will record as he enrolls the peoples, *
“These
also were born there.”
The singers and the dancers will say, *
“All my
fresh springs are in you.”
Lord, you have been our refuge *
from one generation
to another.
Before the mountains were brought forth,
or the land
and the earth were born, *
from age to age you are God.
You turn us back to the dust and say, *
“Go
back, O child of earth.”
For a thousand years in your sight are like yesterday
when it is past *
and like a watch in the night.
You sweep us away like a dream; *
we fade away
suddenly like the grass.
In the morning it is green and flourishes; *
in the
evening it is dried up and withered.
For we consume away in your displeasure; *
we are
afraid because of your wrathful indignation.
Our iniquities you have set before you, *
and our
secret sins in the light of your countenance.
When you are angry, all our days are gone; *
we bring
our years to an end like a sigh.
The span of our life is seventy years,
perhaps in
strength even eighty; *
yet the sum of them is but labor and
sorrow,
for they pass away quickly and we are gone.
Who regards the power of your wrath? *
who rightly
fears your indignation?
So teach us to number our days *
that we may apply
our hearts to wisdom.
Return, O LORD; how long will you tarry? *
be
gracious to your servants.
Satisfy us by your loving-kindness in the morning; *
so
shall we rejoice and be glad all the days of our life.
Make us glad by the measure of the days that you
afflicted us *
and the years in which we suffered adversity.
Show your servants your works *
and your splendor to
their children.
May the graciousness of the LORD our God be upon us;
*
prosper the work of our hands;
prosper our handiwork.

A Reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah.
I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my whole being shall exult in my God; for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation, he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. For as the earth brings forth its shoots, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up, so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring up before all the nations.
For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until her vindication shines out like the dawn, and her salvation like a burning torch. The nations shall see your vindication, and all the kings your glory; and you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the LORD will give. You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. You shall no more be termed Forsaken, and your land shall no more be termed Desolate; but you shall be called My Delight Is in Her, and your land Married; for the LORD delights in you, and your land shall be married. For as a young man marries a young woman, so shall your builder marry you, and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you.

A Reading from the Second Letter to Timothy.
In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I solemnly urge you: proclaim the message; be persistent whether the time is favorable or unfavorable; convince, rebuke, and encourage, with the utmost patience in teaching. For the time is coming when people will not put up with sound doctrine, but having itching ears, they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own desires, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander away to myths. As for you, always be sober, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, carry out your ministry fully. As for me, I am already being poured out as a libation, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. From now on there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

On the third day he rose again.

Almighty God, who after the creation of the world rested from all your works and sanctified a day of rest for all your creatures: Grant that we, putting away all earthly anxieties, may be duly prepared for the service of your sanctuary, and that our rest here upon earth may be a preparation for the eternal rest promised to your people in heaven; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth, and sent your blessed Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near: Grant that people everywhere may seek after you and find you; bring the nations into your fold; pour out your Spirit upon all flesh; and hasten the coming of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Let us pray now for our own needs and those of others.
Almighty God, Father of
all mercies,
we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks
for
all your goodness and loving-kindness
to us and to all whom you
have made.
We bless you for our creation, preservation,
and all
the blessings of this life;
but above all for your immeasurable
love
in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ;
for
the means of grace, and for the hope of glory.
And, we pray, give us such
an awareness of your mercies,
that with truly thankful hearts we
may show forth your praise,
not only with our lips, but in our
lives,
by giving up our selves to your service,
and by walking
before you
in holiness and righteousness all our days;
through
Jesus Christ our Lord,
to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit,
