Year 2 Holy Name
Morning Prayer
Behold, I bring you good news of a great joy, which will come to all the people; for unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:10, 11
Lord, open our lips.
And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.
Glory to the
Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the
beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia.
Venite
Come, let us sing
to the Lord; *
let us shout for joy to the Rock
of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with
thanksgiving *
and raise a loud shout to him
with psalms.
For the Lord is a
great God, *
and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the caverns of the earth, *
and
the heights of the hills are his also.
The sea is his, for he
made it, *
and his hands have molded the dry
land.
Come, let us bow
down, and bend the knee, *
and kneel before the
Lord our Maker.
For he is our God,
and we are the people of
his pasture and the sheep of his hand. *
Oh,
that today you would hearken to his voice!
Psalms
103 Benedic,
anima mea
1
Bless the Lord, O my soul, *
and
all that is within me, bless his holy Name.
2
Bless the Lord, O my soul, *
and
forget not all his benefits.
3
He forgives all your sins *
and
heals all your infirmities;
4
He redeems your life from the grave *
and
crowns you with mercy and loving-kindness;
5
He satisfies you with good things, *
and
your youth is renewed like an eagle's.
6
The Lord executes righteousness *
and
judgment for all who are oppressed.
7
He made his ways known to Moses *
and
his works to the children of Israel.
8
The Lord is full of compassion and mercy, *
slow
to anger and of great kindness.
9
He will not always accuse us, *
nor
will he keep his anger for ever.
10
He has not dealt with us according to our sins, *
nor
rewarded us according to our wickedness.
11
For as the heavens are high above the earth, *
so
is his mercy great upon those who fear him.
12
As far as the east is from the west, *
so
far has he removed our sins from us.
13
As a father cares for his children, *
so
does the Lord care for those who fear him.
14
For he himself knows whereof we are made; *
he
remembers that we are but dust.
15
Our days are like the grass; *
we
flourish like a flower of the field;
16
When the wind goes over it, it is gone, *
and
its place shall know it no more.
17
But the merciful goodness of the Lord endures for ever
on
those who fear him, *
and
his righteousness on children's children;
18
On those who keep his covenant *
and
remember his commandments and do them.
19
The Lord has set his throne in heaven, *
and
his kingship has dominion over all.
20
Bless the Lord, you angels of his,
you
mighty ones who do his bidding, *
and
hearken to the voice of his word.
21
Bless the Lord, all you his hosts, *
you
ministers of his who do his will.
22
Bless the Lord, all you works of his,
in
all places of his dominion; *
bless
the Lord, O my soul.
Glory to the
Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit
as it was in the
beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
For
Zion’s sake I will not keep silent,
and
for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest,
until her vindication
shines out like the dawn,
and her salvation like
a burning torch.
The nations shall see your vindication,
and
all the kings your glory;
and you shall be called by a
new name
that the mouth of the Lord
will give.
You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the
Lord,
and a royal diadem in the hand of your
God.
You shall no more be termed Forsaken,*
and
your land shall no more be termed Desolate;*
but
you shall be called My Delight Is in Her,*
and
your land Married;*
for
the Lord delights in you,
and your land shall be
married.
For as a young man marries a young woman,
so
shall your builder*
marry you,
and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride,
so
shall your God rejoice over you.
Go through, go through the
gates,
prepare the way for the people;
build
up, build up the highway,
clear it of
stones,
lift up an ensign over the peoples.
The
Lord has proclaimed
to the end of the earth:
Say
to daughter Zion,
‘See, your salvation
comes;
his reward is with him,
and his
recompense before him.’
They shall be called, ‘The
Holy People,
The Redeemed of the Lord’;
and
you shall be called, ‘Sought Out,
A
City Not Forsaken.’
The Word of the
Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Surely, it is God
who saves me; *
I will trust in him and not be afraid.
For the Lord is
my stronghold and my sure defense, *
and he will be my Savior.
Therefore you
shall draw water with rejoicing *
from the springs of salvation.
And on that day
you shall say, *
Give thanks to the Lord and call upon his Name;
Make his deeds
known among the peoples; *
see that they remember that his Name is
exalted.
Sing the praises
of the Lord, for he has done great things, *
and this is known in
all the world.
Cry aloud,
inhabitants of Zion, ring out your joy, *
for the great one in the
midst of you is the Holy One of Israel.
Glory to the
Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit
as it was in the
beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
Reading
Now
the birth of Jesus the Messiah*
took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been engaged to
Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found to be with
child from the Holy Spirit. Her husband Joseph, being a righteous man
and unwilling to expose her to public disgrace, planned to dismiss
her quietly. But just when he had resolved to do this, an angel of
the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, ‘Joseph, son of
David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child
conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and
you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their
sins.’ All this took place to fulfil what had been spoken by
the Lord through the prophet:
‘Look, the virgin shall
conceive and bear a son,
and they shall name him
Emmanuel’,
which means, ‘God is with us.’ When
Joseph awoke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded
him; he took her as his wife, but had no marital relations with her
until she had borne a son;*
and he named him Jesus.
The Word of the
Lord.
Thanks be to God.
O ruler of the
universe, Lord God,
great deeds are they that you have done,
*
surpassing human understanding.
Your ways are ways of
righteousness and truth, *
O King of all the
ages
Who can fail to do you homage, Lord
and sing the praises
of your Name
for you only are the Holy One.
All nations will
draw near and fall down before you
because your just and holy
works have been revealed.
Glory to the
Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit
as it was in the
beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in
Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the
power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was
buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose
again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right
hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the
dead.
I believe in the
Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of
saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the
body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
The
Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Let us pray.
Our Father in
heaven,
hallowed be your Name,
your kingdom come,
your will
be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our
daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those
who sin
against us.
Save us from the
time of trial,
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom,
the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and for ever. Amen.
Show us your mercy, O Lord;
And grant us your salvation.
Clothe your ministers with righteousness;
Let your people sing with joy.
Give peace, O Lord, in all the world;
For only in you can we live in safety.
Lord, keep this nation under your care;
And guide us in the way of justice and truth.
Let your way be known upon earth;
Your saving health among all nations.
Let not the needy, O Lord, be forgotten;
Nor the hope of the poor be taken away.
Create in us clean hearts, O God;
And sustain us with your Holy Spirit.
Collect of the Day: Holy Name
Eternal Father, who gave to your incarnate Son the holy name of Jesus to be the sign of our salvation: Plant in every heart, we pray, the love of him who is the Savior of the world, our Lord Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.
A Collect for the Renewal of Life
O God, the King eternal, who divides the day from the night and turns the shadow of death into the morning: Drive far from us all wrong desires, incline our hearts to keep your law, and guide our feet into the way of peace; that, having done your will with cheerfulness while it was day, we may, when night comes, rejoice to give you thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
For Mission
Almighty and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of your faithful people is governed and sanctified: Receive our supplications and prayers which we offer before you for all members of your holy Church, that in their vocation and ministry they may truly and devoutly serve you; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
Let us pray now for our own needs and those of others.
General Thanksgiving
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up our selves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory throughout all ages. Amen.
Let us bless the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
The grace of our
Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the
Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore. Amen.
