Officiant Lord,
open our lips.
People And
our mouth shall proclaim your praise.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: *
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
Alleluia.
Be joyful in the
Lord, all you lands; *
serve the Lord with gladness
and come
before his presence with a song.
Know this: The Lord
himself is God; *
he himself has made us, and we are his;
we
are his people and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with
thanksgiving;
go into his courts with praise; *
give thanks to
him and call upon his Name.
For the Lord is
good;
his mercy is everlasting; *
and his faithfulness endures
from age to age.
You have been
gracious to your land, O LORD, *
you have restored the good
fortune of Jacob.
You have forgiven
the iniquity of your people *
and blotted out all their sins.
You have withdrawn
all your fury *
and turned yourself from your wrathful
indignation.
Restore us then, O
God our Savior; *
let your anger depart from us.
Will you be
displeased with us for ever? *
will you prolong your anger from
age to age?
Will you not give us
life again, *
that your people may rejoice in you?
Show us your mercy,
O LORD, *
and grant us your salvation.
I will listen to
what the LORD God is saying, *
for he is speaking peace to his
faithful people
and to those who turn their hearts to him.
Truly, his salvation
is very near to those who fear him, *
that his glory may dwell in
our land.
Mercy and truth have
met together; *
righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
Truth shall spring
up from the earth, *
and righteousness shall look down from
heaven.
The LORD will indeed
grant prosperity, *
and our land will yield its increase.
Righteousness shall
go before him, *
and peace shall be a pathway for his feet.
On the holy mountain
stands the city he has founded; *
the LORD loves the gates of
Zion
more than all the dwellings of Jacob.
Glorious things are
spoken of you, *
O city of our God.
I count Egypt and
Babylon among those who know me; *
behold Philistia, Tyre, and
Ethiopia:
in Zion were they born.
Of Zion it shall be
said, “Everyone was born in her, *
and the Most High himself
shall sustain her.”
The LORD will record
as he enrolls the peoples, *
“These also were born there.”
The singers and the
dancers will say, *
“All my fresh springs are in you.”
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: *
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
A Reading from the Book of Joshua.
When the people set out from their tents to cross over the Jordan, the priests bearing the ark of the covenant were in front of the people. Now the Jordan overflows all its banks throughout the time of harvest. So when those who bore the ark had come to the Jordan, and the feet of the priests bearing the ark were dipped in the edge of the water, the waters flowing from above stood still, rising up in a single heap far off at Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan, while those flowing toward the sea of the Arabah, the Dead Sea, were wholly cut off. Then the people crossed over opposite Jericho. While all Israel were crossing over on dry ground, the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan, until the entire nation finished crossing over the Jordan.
When the entire nation had finished crossing over the Jordan, the LORD said to Joshua: “Select twelve men from the people, one from each tribe, and command them, Take twelve stones from here out of the middle of the Jordan, from the place where the priests’ feet stood, carry them over with you, and lay them down in the place where you camp tonight.” Then Joshua summoned the twelve men from the Israelites, whom he had appointed, one from each tribe. Joshua said to them, “Pass on before the ark of the LORD your God into the middle of the Jordan, and each of you take up a stone on his shoulder, one for each of the tribes of the Israelites, so that this may be a sign among you. When your children ask in time to come, What do those stones mean to you?’ then you shall tell them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off in front of the ark of the covenant of the LORD. When it crossed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. So these stones shall be to the Israelites a memorial forever.”
The
Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
I will sing to the
Lord, for he is lofty and uplifted; *
the horse and its rider has
he hurled into the sea.
The Lord is my
strength and my refuge; *
the Lord has become my Savior.
This is my God and I
will praise him, *
the God of my people and I will exalt him.
The Lord is a mighty
warrior; *
Yahweh is his Name.
The chariots of
Pharaoh and his army has he hurled into the sea; *
the finest of
those who bear armor have been drowned in the Red Sea.
The fathomless deep
has overwhelmed them; *
they sank into the depths like a stone.
Your right hand, O
Lord, is glorious in might; *
your right hand, O Lord, has
overthrown the enemy.
Who can be compared
with you, O Lord, among the gods? *
who is like you, glorious in
holiness,
awesome in renown, and worker of wonders?
You stretched forth
your right hand; *
the earth swallowed them up.
With your constant
love you led the people you redeemed; *
with your might you
brought them in safety to your holy dwelling.
You will bring them
in and plant them *
on the mount of your possession,
The resting-place
you have made for yourself, O Lord, *
the sanctuary, O Lord, that
your hand has established.
The Lord shall reign
*
for ever and for ever.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: *
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
A Reading from the Gospel According to John.
As he walked along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned; he was born blind so that God’s works might be revealed in him. We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” When he had said this, he spat on the ground and made mud with the saliva and spread the mud on the man’s eyes, saying to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means Sent). Then he went and washed and came back able to see.
The neighbors and those who had seen him before as a beggar began to ask, “Is this not the man who used to sit and beg?” Some were saying, “It is he.” Others were saying, “No, but it is someone like him.” He kept saying, “I am the man.” But they kept asking him, “Then how were your eyes opened?” He answered, “The man called Jesus made mud, spread it on my eyes, and said to me, Go to Siloam and wash.’ Then I went and washed and received my sight.” They said to him, “Where is he?” He said, “I do not know.”
Jesus heard that they had driven him out, and when he found him, he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” He answered, “And who is he, sir? Tell me, so that I may believe in him.” Jesus said to him, “You have seen him, and the one speaking with you is he.” He said, “Lord, I believe.” And he worshiped him.

the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of
sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
