Officiant Lord,
open our lips.
People And
our mouth shall proclaim your praise.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: *
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
Alleluia.
Come, let us sing to
the Lord; *
let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before
his presence with thanksgiving *
and raise a loud shout to him
with psalms.
For the Lord is a
great God, *
and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the
caverns of the earth, *
and the heights of the hills are his also.
The sea is his, for
he made it, *
and his hands have molded the dry land.
Come, let us bow
down, and bend the knee, *
and kneel before the Lord our Maker.
For he is our
God,
and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his
hand. *
Oh, that today you would hearken to his voice!
Why are the nations
in an uproar? *
Why do the peoples mutter empty threats?
Why do the kings of
the earth rise up in revolt,
and the princes plot together,
*
against the LORD and against his Anointed?
“Let us break
their yoke,” they say; *
“let us cast off their bonds
from us.”
He whose throne is
in heaven is laughing; *
the Lord has them in derision.
Then he speaks to
them in his wrath, *
and his rage fills them with terror.
“I myself have
set my king *
upon my holy hill of Zion.”
Let me announce the
decree of the LORD: *
he said to me, “You are my Son;
this day have I begotten you.
Ask of me, and I
will give you the nations for your inheritance *
and the ends of
the earth for your possession.
You shall crush them
with an iron rod *
and shatter them like a piece of pottery.”
And now, you kings,
be wise; *
be warned, you rulers of the earth.
Submit to the LORD
with fear, *
and with trembling bow before him;
Lest he be angry and
you perish; *
for his wrath is quickly kindled.
Happy are they all
*
who take refuge in him!
The LORD said to my
Lord, “Sit at my right hand, *
until I make your enemies
your footstool.”
The LORD will send
the scepter of your power out of Zion, *
saying, “Rule over
your enemies round about you.
Princely state has
been yours from the day of your birth; *
in the beauty of holiness
have I begotten you,
like dew from the womb of the morning.”
The LORD has sworn
and he will not recant: *
“You are a priest for ever after
the order of Melchizedek.”
The Lord who is at
your right hand
will smite kings in the day of his wrath; *
he
will rule over the nations.
[He will heap high
the corpses; *
he will smash heads over the wide earth.
He will drink from
the brook beside the road; *
therefore he will lift high his
head.]
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: *
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
A Reading from the Book of the Prophet Jonah.
saying, “I called to the LORD out of my distress, and he answered me; out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and you heard my voice. You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the flood surrounded me; all your waves and your billows passed over me. Then I said, I am driven away from your sight; how shall I look again upon your holy temple?’ The waters closed in over me; the deep surrounded me; weeds were wrapped around my head at the roots of the mountains. I went down to the land whose bars closed upon me forever; yet you brought up my life from the Pit, O LORD my God. As my life was ebbing away, I remembered the LORD; and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple. Those who worship vain idols forsake their true loyalty. But I with the voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you; what I have vowed I will pay. Deliverance belongs to the LORD!”
The
Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Seek the Lord while
he wills to be found; *
call upon him when he draws near.
Let the wicked
forsake their ways *
and the evil ones their thoughts;
And let them turn to
the Lord, and he will have compassion, *
and to our God, for he
will richly pardon.
For my thoughts are
not your thoughts, *
nor your ways my ways, says the Lord.
For as the heavens
are higher than the earth, *
so are my ways higher than your
ways,
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
For as rain and snow
fall from the heavens *
and return not again, but water the earth,
Bringing forth life
and giving growth, *
seed for sowing and bread for eating,
So is my word that
goes forth from my mouth; *
it will not return to me empty;
But it will
accomplish that which I have purposed, *
and prosper in that for
which I sent it.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: *
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
A Reading from the Gospel According to John.
When Jesus arrived, he found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb four days. Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, some two miles away, and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to console them about their brother. When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, while Mary stayed at home. Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask of him.” Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” She said to him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one coming into the world.” Then Jesus, again greatly disturbed, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone was lying against it. Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, “Lord, already there is a stench because he has been dead four days.” Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?” So they took away the stone. And Jesus looked upward and said, “Father, I thank you for having heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I have said this for the sake of the crowd standing here, so that they may believe that you sent me.” When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” The dead man came out, his hands and feet bound with strips of cloth, and his face wrapped in a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”
The
Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Splendor and honor
and kingly power *
are yours by right, O Lord our God,
For you created
everything that is, *
and by your will they were created and have
their being;
And yours by right,
O Lamb that was slain, *
for with your blood you have redeemed for
God,
From every family,
language, people, and nation, *
a kingdom of priests to serve our
God.
And so, to him who
sits upon the throne, *
and to Christ the Lamb,
Be worship and
praise, dominion and splendor, *
for ever and for evermore.
I
believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and
earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He
was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the
Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified,
died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third
day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at
the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the
living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy
catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of
sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
Amen.
Officiant The
Lord be with you.
People And
also with you.
Officiant Let
us pray.
Our
Father in heaven,
hallowed be your Name,
your
kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in
heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as
we forgive those
who sin against us.
Save us from the
time of trial,
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom,
the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and for
ever. Amen.
Show
us your mercy, O Lord;
R. And
grant us your salvation.
V. Clothe
your ministers with righteousness;
R. Let
your people sing with joy.
V. Give
peace, O Lord, in all the world;
R. For
only in you can we live in safety.
V. Lord,
keep this nation under your care;
R. And
guide us in the way of justice and truth.
V. Let
your way be known upon earth;
R. Your
saving health among all nations.
V. Let
not the needy, O Lord, be forgotten;
R. Nor
the hope of the poor be taken away.
V. Create
in us clean hearts, O God;
R. And
sustain us with your Holy Spirit.
Almighty God, you have poured upon us the new light of your incarnate Word: Grant that this light, enkindled in our hearts, may shine forth in our lives; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Almighty God, whose most dear Son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he was crucified: Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Almighty and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of your faithful people is governed and sanctified: Receive our supplications and prayers which we offer before you for all members of your holy Church, that in their vocation and ministry they may truly and devoutly serve you; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
Almighty
God, Father of all mercies,
we your unworthy servants give you
humble thanks
for all your goodness and loving-kindness
to us
and to all whom you have made.
We bless you for our creation,
preservation,
and all the blessings of this life;
but above all
for your immeasurable love
in the redemption of the world by our
Lord Jesus Christ;
for the means of grace, and for the hope of
glory.
And,
we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies,
that with
truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise,
not only with
our lips, but in our lives,
by giving up our selves to your
service,
and by walking before you
in holiness and
righteousness all our days;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
to
whom, with you and the Holy Spirit,
be honor and glory throughout
all ages. Amen.
Let
us bless the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Glory to God whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine: Glory to God from generation to generation in the Church, and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever. Amen.
