Come, let us sing to the Lord; *

heights of the hills are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it, *
and his hands have
molded the dry land.
Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee, *
and kneel

For he is our God,

Happy are they whose way is blameless, *

You laid down your commandments, *

fully keep them.
Oh, that my ways were made so direct *

keep your statutes!
Then I should not be put to shame, *
when I regard
all your commandments.
I will thank you with an unfeigned heart, *
when I
have learned your righteous judgments.
I will keep your statutes; *
do not utterly forsake
me.
How shall a young man cleanse his way? *
By keeping
to your words.
With my whole heart I seek you; *
let me not stray
from your commandments.
I treasure your promise in my heart, *
that I may not
sin against you.
Blessed are you, O LORD; *
instruct me in your
statutes.
With my lips will I recite *
all the judgments of
your mouth.
I have taken greater delight in the way of your decrees
*
than in all manner of riches.
I will meditate on your commandments *
and give
attention to your ways.
My delight is in your statutes; *
I will not forget
your word.
Deal bountifully with your servant, *
that I may live
and keep your word.
Open my eyes, that I may see *
the wonders of your
law.
I am a stranger here on earth; *
do not hide your
commandments from me.
My soul is consumed at all times *
with longing for
your judgments.
You have rebuked the insolent; *
cursed are they who
stray from your commandments!
Turn from me shame and rebuke, *
for I have kept your
decrees.
Even though rulers sit and plot against me, *
I will
meditate on your statutes.
For your decrees are my delight, *
and they are my
counselors.

A Reading from the Book of Proverbs.
My child, if you have
given your pledge to your neighbour,
if you have
bound yourself to another,
you are snared by the utterance of
your lips,
caught by the words of your mouth.
So do this, my child, and save yourself,
for you
have come into your neighbour’s power:
go,
hurry, and plead with your neighbour.
Give your eyes no
sleep
and your eyelids no slumber;
save
yourself like a gazelle from the hunter,
like a bird from the
hand of the fowler.
Go to the ant, you
lazybones;
consider its ways, and be wise.
Without having any chief
or officer or ruler,
it prepares its food in summer,
and gathers its
sustenance in harvest.
How long will you lie there,
O lazybones?
When will you rise from your
sleep?
A little sleep, a little slumber,
a
little folding of the hands to rest,
and poverty will come
upon you like a robber,
and want, like an armed warrior.
A scoundrel and a
villain
goes around with crooked speech,
winking the eyes, shuffling the feet,
pointing
the fingers,
with perverted mind devising evil,
continually
sowing discord;
on such a one calamity will descend suddenly;
in a moment, damage beyond repair.
There are six things that
the LORD hates,
seven that are an abomination
to him:
haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
and
hands that shed innocent blood,
a heart that devises wicked
plans,
feet that hurry to run to evil,
a
lying witness who testifies falsely,
and one who sows discord
in a family.

Arise, shine, for your light has come, *
and the
glory of the Lord has dawned upon you.
For behold, darkness covers the land; *
deep gloom
enshrouds the peoples.
But over you the Lord will rise, *
and his glory will

brightness of your dawning.
Your gates will always be open; *
by day or night
they will never be shut.
They will call you, The City of the Lord, *
The Zion
of the Holy One of Israel.
Violence will no more be heard in your land, *
ruin
or destruction within your borders.
You will call your walls, Salvation, *
and all your
portals, Praise.
The sun will no more be your light by day; *
by night
you will not need the brightness of the moon.
The Lord will be your everlasting light, *

God will be your glory.

A Reading from the Gospel According to Matthew.
“But to what will I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to one another, ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not mourn.’ For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon’; the Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.” Then he began to reproach the cities in which most of his deeds of power had been done, because they did not repent. “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the deeds of power done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I tell you, on the day of judgment it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon than for you. And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? No, you will be brought down to Hades. For if the deeds of power done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. But I tell you that on the day of judgment it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom than for you.”

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel; *
he has come
to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty savior, *
born of
the house of his servant David.
Through his holy prophets he promised of old,
that he
would save us from our enemies, *
from the hands of all who hate
us.
He promised to show mercy to our fathers *
and to
remember his holy covenant.
This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham, *
to
set us free from the hands of our enemies,
Free to worship him without fear, *
holy and
righteous in his sight
all the days of our life.
You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most
High, *
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
To give his people knowledge of salvation *
by the
forgiveness of their sins.
In the tender compassion of our God *
the dawn from
on high shall break upon us,
To shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow
of death, *
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

I believe in God, the Father
almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

He was conceived by the power of

under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He
descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He
ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

Lord God, almighty and everlasting Father, you have brought us in safety to this new day: Preserve us with your mighty power, that we may not fall into sin, nor be overcome by adversity; and in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name. Amen.
Let us pray now for our own needs and those of others.
Almighty God, Father of
all mercies,
we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks
for
all your goodness and loving-kindness
to us and to all whom you
have made.
We bless you for our creation, preservation,
and all
the blessings of this life;
but above all for your immeasurable
love
in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ;
for
the means of grace, and for the hope of glory.
And, we pray, give us such
an awareness of your mercies,
that with truly thankful hearts we
may show forth your praise,
not only with our lips, but in our
lives,
by giving up our selves to your service,
and by walking
before you
in holiness and righteousness all our days;
through
Jesus Christ our Lord,
to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit,
be
