Year 1 Proper 28
Morning Prayer
The hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for such the Father seeks to worship him. John 4:23
Versicle and Response
Lord, open our lips.
And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.
Glory to the
Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the
beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia.
Jubilate
Be joyful in the
Lord, all you lands; *
serve the Lord with
gladness
and come before his presence with a
song.
Know this: The
Lord himself is God; *
he himself has made us,
and we are his;
we are his people and the
sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates
with thanksgiving;
go into his courts with praise; *
give thanks to him and call upon his Name.
For the Lord is
good;
his mercy is everlasting; *
and his
faithfulness endures from age to age.
Psalm 107: Part II
33 The Lord
changed rivers into deserts, *
and water-springs into thirsty
ground,
34 A fruitful land into salt flats, *
because of
the wickedness of those who dwell there.
35 He changed deserts
into pools of water *
and dry land into water-springs.
36 He settled the hungry there, *
and
they founded a city to dwell in.
37 They sowed fields, and
planted vineyards, *
and brought in a fruitful harvest.
38
He blessed them, so that they increased greatly; *
he did not let
their herds decrease.
39 Yet when they were diminished and
brought low, *
through stress of adversity and sorrow,
40
(He pours contempt on princes *
and makes them wander in trackless
wastes)
41 He lifted up the poor out of misery *
and
multiplied their families like flocks of sheep.
42 The upright
will see this and rejoice, *
but all wickedness will shut its
mouth.
43 Whoever is wise will ponder these things, *
and
consider well the mercies of the Lord.
108
1
My heart is firmly fixed, O God, my heart is fixed; *
I will sing
and make melody.
2 Wake up, my spirit;
awake, lute and
harp; *
I myself will waken the dawn.
3 I will confess you
among the peoples, O Lord; *
I will sing praises to you among the
nations.
4 For your loving-kindness is greater than the heavens, *
and
your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
5 Exalt yourself
above the heavens, O God, *
and your glory over all the earth.
6
So that those who are dear to you may be delivered, *
save with
your right hand and answer me.
(7 God spoke from his holy place and said, *
"I
will exult and parcel out Shechem;
I will divide the valley of
Succoth.
8 Gilead is mine and Manasseh is mine; *
Ephraim
is my helmet and Judah my scepter.
9 Moab is my washbasin,
on
Edom I throw down my sandal to claim it, *
and over Philistia will
I shout in triumph."
10 Who will lead me into the strong
city? *
who will bring me into Edom?
11 Have you not cast
us off, O God? *
you no longer go out, O God, with our armies.
12
Grant us your help against the enemy, *
for vain is the help of
man.
13 With
God we will do valiant deeds, *
and he shall tread our enemies
under foot.)
Glory to the
Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit
as it was in the
beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
For I am
about to create new heavens
and a new earth;
the
former things shall not be remembered
or come to
mind.
But be glad and rejoice for ever
in
what I am creating;
for I am about to create Jerusalem as a
joy,
and its people as a delight.
I will
rejoice in Jerusalem,
and delight in my
people;
no more shall the sound of weeping be heard in it,
or
the cry of distress.
No more shall there be in it
an
infant that lives but a few days,
or an old
person who does not live out a lifetime;
for one who dies at a
hundred years will be considered a youth,
and
one who falls short of a hundred will be considered accursed.
They
shall build houses and inhabit them;
they shall
plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
They shall not build and
another inhabit;
they shall not plant and
another eat;
for like the days of a tree shall the days of my
people be,
and my chosen shall long enjoy the
work of their hands.
They shall not labour in vain,
or
bear children for calamity;*
for
they shall be offspring blessed by the Lord—
and
their descendants as well.
Before they call I will
answer,
while they are yet speaking I will hear.
The wolf and the lamb shall feed together,
the
lion shall eat straw like the ox;
but the
serpent—its food shall be dust!
They shall not hurt or
destroy
on all my holy mountain,
says the Lord.
The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Doxology
Let us glorify
the Lord: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; *
praise him and highly
exalt him for ever.
In the firmament
of his power, glorify the Lord, *
praise
him and highly exalt him for ever.
Blessed are those who wash their robes,* so that they will have the right to the tree of life and may enter the city by the gates. Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and fornicators and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practises falsehood.
‘It is I, Jesus, who sent my angel to you with this
testimony for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of
David, the bright morning star.’
The Spirit and the bride
say, ‘Come.’
And let everyone who hears say,
‘Come.’
And let everyone who is thirsty come.
Let
anyone who wishes take the water of life as a gift.
I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this book; if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away that person’s share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.
The one who testifies to these things says, ‘Surely I am coming soon.’
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!
The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all the saints. Amen.*
The Word of the
Lord.
Thanks
be to God.
O ruler of the
universe, Lord God,
great deeds are they that you have done,
*
surpassing human understanding.
Your ways are ways of
righteousness and truth, *
O King of all the
ages
Who can fail to do you homage, Lord
and sing the praises
of your Name
for you only are the Holy One.
All nations will
draw near and fall down before you
because your just and holy
works have been revealed.
Glory to the
Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit
as it was in the
beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in
Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the
power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was
buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose
again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right
hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the
dead.
I believe in the
Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of
saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the
body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Lord be with
you.
And also with you.
Let us pray.
Our Father in
heaven,
hallowed be your Name,
your kingdom come,
your will
be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our
daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those
who sin
against us.
Save us from the
time of trial,
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom,
the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and for ever. Amen.
Save your people, Lord, and bless your inheritance;
Govern and uphold them, now and always.
Day by day we bless you;
We praise your name for ever.
Lord, keep us from all sin today;
Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy.
Lord, show us your love and mercy;
For we put our trust in you.
In you, Lord, is our hope;
And we shall never hope in vain.
Collect of the Day: Pentecost, proper 28
Blessed Lord, who caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning: Grant us so to hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which you have given us in our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
A Collect for Saturdays
Almighty God, who after the creation of the world rested from all your works and sanctified a day of rest for all your creatures: Grant that we, putting away all earthly anxieties, may be duly prepared for the service of your sanctuary, and that our rest here upon earth may be a preparation for the eternal rest promised to your people in heaven; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
For Mission
O God and Father of all, whom the whole heavens adore: Let the whole earth also worship you, all nations obey you, all tongues confess and bless you, and men and women everywhere love you and serve you in peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Let us pray now for our own needs and those of others.
General Thanksgiving
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up our selves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory throughout all ages. Amen.
Let us bless the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
The grace of our
Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the
Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore. Amen.
