Evening Prayer
Let my prayer be set forth in your sight as incense, the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice. Psalm 141:2
O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory to the
Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit
As it was in the
beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!
O gracious
light,
pure brightness of the everliving Father in heaven,
O
Jesus Christ, holy and blessed!
Now as we come to the setting of
the sun,
and our eyes behold the vesper light,
we sing your
praises, O God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
You are worthy at
all times to be praised by happy voices,
O Son of God, O Giver of
Life,
and to be glorified through all the worlds.

1
I was glad when they said to me, *
"Let us go to the house of
the Lord."
2 Now our feet are standing *
within your
gates, O Jerusalem.
3 Jerusalem is built as a city *
that
is at unity with itself;
4 To which the tribes go up,
the tribes of the Lord, *
the
assembly of Israel,
to praise the Name of the Lord.
5 For
there are the thrones of judgment, *
the thrones of the house of
David.
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: *
"May they
prosper who love you.
7 Peace be within your walls *
and
quietness within your towers.
8 For my brethren and
companions' sake, *
I pray for your prosperity.
9 Because
of the house of the Lord our God, *
I will seek to do you good."

1 Those who trust in the
Lord are like Mount Zion, *
which cannot be moved, but stands fast
for ever.
2 The hills stand about Jerusalem; *
so does the
Lord stand round about his people,
from this time forth for
evermore.
3 The scepter of the wicked shall not hold sway over
the land allotted to the just, *
so that the just shall not put
their hands to evil.
4 Show your goodness, O Lord, to those
who are good *
and to those who are true of heart.
5 As for
those who turn aside to crooked ways,
the Lord will lead them away
with the evildoers; *
but peace be upon Israel.
Glory to the
Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit
as it was in the
beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
Reading
For I am about to create new heavens
and
a new earth;
the former things shall not be remembered
or
come to mind.
But be glad and rejoice for ever
in
what I am creating;
for I am about to create Jerusalem as a
joy,
and its people as a delight.
I will
rejoice in Jerusalem,
and delight in my
people;
no more shall the sound of weeping be heard in it,
or
the cry of distress.
No more shall there be in it
an
infant that lives but a few days,
or an old
person who does not live out a lifetime;
for one who dies at a
hundred years will be considered a youth,
and
one who falls short of a hundred will be considered accursed.
They
shall build houses and inhabit them;
they shall
plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
They shall not build and
another inhabit;
they shall not plant and
another eat;
for like the days of a tree shall the days of my
people be,
and my chosen shall long enjoy the
work of their hands.
They shall not labour in vain,
or
bear children for calamity;*
for
they shall be offspring blessed by the Lord—
and
their descendants as well.
Before they call I will
answer,
while they are yet speaking I will hear.
The wolf and the lamb shall feed together,
the
lion shall eat straw like the ox;
but the
serpent—its food shall be dust!
They shall not hurt or
destroy
on all my holy mountain,
says the Lord.
The Word of the
Lord.
Thanks

Canticle 8
I will sing to the Lord, for he is lofty and
uplifted; *
the horse and its rider has he
hurled into the sea.
The Lord is my strength and my refuge; *
the Lord has become my Savior.
This is my
God and I will praise him, *
the God of my
people and I will exalt him.
The Lord is a mighty warrior; *
Yahweh is his Name.
The chariots of Pharoah and his army has he
hurled into the sea; *
the finest of those who
bear armor have been
drowned
in the Red Sea.
The fathomless deep has overwhelmed them; *
they sank into the depths like a stone.
Your right hand, O Lord,
is glorious in might; *
your right hand, O
Lord, has overthrown the enemy.
Who can be compared with you, O
Lord, among the gods? *
who is like you,
glorious in holiness,
awesome in renown, and
worker of wonders?
You stretched forth your right hand; *
the earth swallowed them up.
With your constant love you led the
people you redeemed; *
with your might you
brought them in safety to
your holy dwelling.
You will bring them in and plant
them *
on the mount of your possession,
The
resting-place you have made for yourself, O Lord, *
the sanctuary, O Lord, that your hand has established.
The Lord
shall reign *
for ever and for ever.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy
Spirit: *
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.
Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather be healed.
Pursue peace with everyone, and the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springs up and causes trouble, and through it many become defiled. See to it that no one becomes like Esau, an immoral and godless person, who sold his birthright for a single meal. You know that later, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no chance to repent,* even though he sought the blessing* with tears.
You have not come to something* that can be touched, a blazing fire, and darkness, and gloom, and a tempest, and the sound of a trumpet, and a voice whose words made the hearers beg that not another word be spoken to them. (For they could not endure the order that was given, ‘If even an animal touches the mountain, it shall be stoned to death.’ Indeed, so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, ‘I tremble with fear.’) But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, and to the assembly* of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
The Word of the
Lord.

Lord,
you now have set your servant free *
to go in peace as you have
promised;
For
these eyes of mine have seen the Savior, *
whom you have prepared
for all the world to see:
A
Light to enlighten the nations, *
and the glory of your people
Israel.
Glory
to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit
as it was in
the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
I
believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I
believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
He was conceived
by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was
buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose
again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right
hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the
dead.
I
believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the
communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection
of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
The
Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Let us pray.
Our
Father in heaven,
hallowed be your Name,
your kingdom
come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give
us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive
those
who sin against us.
Save
us from the time of trial,
and deliver us from evil.
For
the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and for
ever. Amen.
Show us your mercy, O Lord;
And grant us your salvation.
Clothe your ministers with righteousness;
Let your people sing with joy.
Give peace, O Lord, in all the world;
For only in you can we live in safety.
Lord, keep this nation under your care;
And guide us in the way of justice and truth.
Let your way be known upon earth;
Your saving health among all nations.
Let not the needy, O Lord, be forgotten;
Nor the hope of the poor be taken away.
Create in us clean hearts, O God;
And sustain us with your Holy Spirit.
Collect of the Day: James of Jerusalem
Grant, O God, that following the example of your servant James the Just, brother of our Lord, your Church may give itself continually to prayer and to the reconciliation of all who are at variance and enmity; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and ever. Amen.
A Collect for Peace
Most holy God, the source of all good desires, all right judgments, and all just works: Give to us, your servants, that peace which the world cannot give, so that our minds may be fixed on the doing of your will, and that we, being delivered from the fear of all enemies, may live in peace and quietness; through the mercies of Christ Jesus our Savior. Amen.
For Mission
Almighty and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of your faithful people is governed and sanctified: Receive our supplications and prayers which we offer before you for all members of your holy Church, that in their vocation and ministry they may truly and devoutly serve you; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
Let us pray now for our own needs and those of others.
A Prayer of St. Chrysostom
Almighty God, you have given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplication to you; and you have promised through your well-beloved Son that when two or three are gathered together in his Name you will be in the midst of them: Fulfill now, O Lord, our desires and petitions as may be best for us; granting us in this world knowledge of your truth, and in the age to come life everlasting. Amen.
Let us bless the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Glory
to God whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can
ask or imagine: Glory to him from generation to generation in the
Church, and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever. Amen.
